It is bad to focus only on the evil out there, and what is wrong with churches. It’s easy to get trapped into this, to read and obsess on all these things especially when you find that you’ve been attending a church that’s into wrong teaching. It’s easy to focus on how to recognize the bad things and not focus on how to recognize truth. It’s important to keep the balance, and not an equal balance either. More focus should be on the study of Christ through the bible.
I find I have really put too much focus on all that is bad in churches. I needed to learn at first, the curve was great. Now that I have my eyes opened, I really need to get back to truth (I should always have had the balance, but it is easy to turn away just like that “train wreck” you cannot look away from). I am challenged to my core to retrain my focus on Christ. It’s sad how easy we can allow ourselves to be distracted. Such is the Christian life, knowing we are so wretched and thanking God for His grace and mercy. I know I really need Him, and can use every ounce of grace and mercy to cover all that is sin in me..
Hm… I had been feeling that way sometime time ago. And then all this week I was feeling “burned out” from all that has happened or that I have been doing in the last 9 months. Although I know I am doing the right thing for God’s truth, I had to stop and think that I need some balance in my life, and not let this become such a focus, that I lose focus on the good things, on staying in God’s word to grow.
At least I have realized it and now need to keep a proper balance on everything, so I can stay healthy spiritually.
just be careful and don’t loose the will to dicern. Too many christians have. the emergent movement is heresy and if we become too complacent, no one will be standing for God’s holy word. yes, we can become over zealous in the time we spend studying this new spiritual formation movement but right is right and wrong is wrong and the bible is black and while not grey. we do need to keep our eyes on Christ and ask him to show us our own sin. we need to make a commitment to study the word at least as much as we study what is happening is today’s churches with this new generation of families. I am just not willing to sit by and watch it happen and pretend to go along with it.
my feeling is that the narrow gate will be traversed by believers that the bible is literal. wide is the gate to destruction.
