I sent the link to the previous post to a friend and elder in the former church as well as to others. No real intent there except to encourage people to read the verses from Purpose materials as the Bereans did. The response was interesting from the elder/friend. He doesn’t want to be forwarded criticism and why would I be involved in forwarding a critical view of the ministry of others? He’s afraid where this is leading…ugh. Am I not afraid of “getting afield of being a loving member of the body?” He wants me to pray about talking to him about it in the future. Okay, really? So, the Bereans were not loving in their careful study? I guess watching out for error is unloving. Again, my family loves this man and his family. Obviously though, he doesn’t want to hear our thoughts. I’ve heard it said a person often “doesn’t want to be confused with the truth.” I am supposed to just shut up already!

That’s a classic PDL response if I ever heard one.
Careful christianlady, you may be labeled as “divisive” and “unloving”! Sadly many in positions of church leadership (so-called) have bowed the knee to their idol god unity.
In fact Warren’s PDL nonsense casts his faithful “implementers” as humble Nehemiahs who must face down the inevitable evil of the Sanballats (“resisters”) who will arise, even going so far as the cast out of the church those who dare to take a stand on scripture and against the man-centered gibberish of the PDL system.
Once the PDL cancer has begun to metastasize in a local body there are really only three options; 1) Cave in and embrace the false teaching 2) Stand firm and fight until you are formally disfellowshipped from the church or until the rest of the congregation sees the truth and gets rid of the PDL leadership 3) Leave
Of course #1 is not an option for a true believer and #3 is the simplest, but is unwise and doesn’t represent “earnestly contending for the faith” therefore option #2 is probably God’s best – even though this course of action will surely be filled with trials and heartache.

Thanks CD. Truth is we already left. We spoke to a pastor and some elders. We put in a letter that was quite blunt and quoted a sermon and showed links actually to emergent/new age teachings. We met with the lead pastor. We left (and basically got the “you’re not teachable…which we agreed we could no longer LEARN in this church). We decided for our family it was best to leave because we have six children and we want them to be taught in a healthy, Bible honoring, Christ centered not man centered church. We still have contact with people from the former church and that is why the flack. We continue to speak to people. This, of coure, is seen as spreading rumors. We have been mentioned from the pulpit, as of yet not by name (amazingly). We have been told of some changes, they deny emergent and have defined it. A youth minister has been let go but supposedly not for emergent. IHOP was a connection the church has dropped. They are spending more time teaching from Bible verses, but of course, this was for a financing campaign and it also established this pastor as “Nehemiah” and people like us as ones who want to “take them down from the wall.” We have done a lot to fight the fight, and wish we were more equipped…truly. A friend of ours was an elder. He fought for over two years. We only fought for about 8-9 months. We have given a lot of information to friends who are remaining and are fighting still carefully. They stay and teach children, or help in music, one is a pastor who holds out hope constantly. We fear he may be into contemplative though. At any rate, we feel we had to leave when we did but we also had to leave a statement behind and because of friendships, we still speak up. I agree, the second option is hardest and best in most cases. If we didn’t have a child about to enter the youth side of things (which we feel had some major problems and they seperated adults from youth often in the way things were done) we would have continued. We were “small group leaders” and taught children’s ministry classes, helped with Awana until they decided not to do that anymore, and helped in choir before they dropped choir for other things…we were very involved. Now we’re involved with our kids more, and are looking for a church home.
I’m very sorry to hear your sad, sad story which by now sounds all too familiar to me. *sigh*
I often wonder if “Pastor” Rick has any clue about the spiritual carnage his circus church antics have left in their wake? I think he does and that he doesn’t care because he really believes the things he says – I think he really believes he’s “cleansing the temple” as it were as local churches employ his deplorable and unbiblical methods.
In my mind “Pastor” Rick is sort of like the Pope…I mean maybe after enough people grovel at your feet and kiss your ring and call you high sounding pious names like “Holy Father” *gag*, “The Shepherd of Rome” *gag* and the “Vicar of Christ” *blasphemy!* perhaps the wickedness and ravening of the idolatrous heart within causes one to actually, really believe in the delusions of grandeur. Maybe this is the case with “America’s Pastor”, the would-be Protestant Pontiff Rick Warren.
In closing be encouraged my sister, God has a local church body for you and your family to come alongside for fellowship, worship and service to the King and all things are in His timing.
You’re in my prayers.
In Christ,
