For the Time Being I pulled the link..
If you do not think Focus on the Family is getting contemplative, don’t be fooled. Here’s a link to a blog about the disciplines of silence and solitude. Note the comment about New Age at the end. I find no comfort knowing the quote on disciplines comes from Focus on the Family.
The link had a quote from J. P. Moreland, and then a description of being contemplative and silent. The final quote from this man was as follows:
“If you are reading this and plan to make a comment about how New Age these thoughts are, just know that I got the J.P. Moreland quote from a Focus on the Family website. Instead of fighting it just Be Still and Know that God is God.”
Huh. This is sort of “Borg” like to me. Assimilate or die.

Oh my goodness, that quote at the end was creepy. I could practically hear it being spoken with a slowly spoken, hissing, slithering sort of voice; “don’t fight it, just be still…”
I couldn’t even read the last few words because I felt like I was giving the enemy a foothold.
This dude has people on the verge of self-hypnosis and trust me (I know), once we let our subconscious fly through this contemplative meditation and EMPTYING of our Selves which leads to those false, [Todd] Bentley-like out of body experiences that so many deem as “feeling the anointing”, then we risk having the enemy move right in.
It’s called demon possession and there are a lot of demons looking for empty carcasses to invade. —Why can’t people see how dangerous this stuff is? God, help us! We are headed for a mess and I feel like I’m in a horror movie with no one listening.
Between all the willing recipients of this sort of possession that is taking place right before our very eyes and…. (Now you are really going to think I’m out there) with this cloning thing that so many nations are messing with, without admitting they are messing with it… We are going to have so many empty bodies walking around without souls, just ready for Satan’s army to move right in and THEN we WILL begin to TRULY understand why the Scriptures tell us that “It will be as it was in the days of Noah.” Oh, D. We really haven’t seen anything yet.
I know I am sounding melodramatic, but I know what I know through some not so good experiences of my own. No one will ever convince me that this man you’ve linked to is being led by the Lord with that message of his. Lord have mercy on us all.
Should I pull it El?
PS
That book of his, Presence-Centered Youth Ministries… Could they have found an any creepier looking Jesus for the cover? Why does this contemplative, mergent, emergent stuff more often than not seem to embrace the “Creepy” aspects of religion through the ages? Hell-O… Creepy is not of the Lord.
Yeah… Go ahead and pull everything. I’m sorry. I’m upset right now and I’m really not in the mood to defend my points with these morons. Besides, I don’t need to defend the truth. The truth has already won this war. I know you know what I’m talking about, anyway and that’s all that matters.
I’m so upset that my daughter and her children are going to have to put up with this garbage.
Oh, I didn’t mean you should pull the link… I meant you could dump my comments. ha-ha I think the link is very telling and there is a good chance that through this link that someone on the cusp of embracing contemplative prayer might begin to see the dangers of the way it is being promoted by this guy and others.
Certainly share what you have found, but you can dump my comments if you think I’ve stirred up a hornets nest with them.
Ha. I won’t dump your comments. They are fine. I just wonder if I’m giving them some press here even if it’s just eight people? Actually, I was thinking I need to figure out how to make this public. These are camps for youth, and MANY youth in our area go to this stuff. They are involved in several camp locations, missions trips, and I believe they have a place in a cultural arts thingy that’s Christian. Several churches in our area do a serve day that I believe originated from the church this man goes to. I think service is good, but the fact that churches are following along lets me know who is influencing them. I know our old pastor is involved, as are several on staff in our church…or those who attend. It’s the “in” thing to do, go on these missions trips, serve with him. The serving is not going to make someone go into mantras. However, the book sharing and small groups who learn contemplative prayer…they are getting into this.
There is, unfortunately, a false Christianity being presented by many who have infiltrated the church today. They have come across as church growth experts or professors of new methods that promise liberty, but in fact bring men into bondage.
Paul warned us: “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.” (II Timothy 4:3-4). We are living in the times prophesied by Paul; these false teachers are confirming the words of Paul with their false doctrine and people are confirming the words of Paul with their “itching ears” flocking after these false prophets.
Paul went on to tell the true believer of their responsibility: “Hold fast the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which are in Christ Jesus.” (II Timothy 1:13). Hold fast speaks of endurance to the orthodox faith revealed to Paul, without deviating from those things he taught and which we have learned from faithful teachers.
Finally Paul said: “But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.” (Galatians 1:8-9). Those who teach error will be held accountable, no matter how exciting, how contemporary, how appealing or how well meaning.
Today it is becoming increasingly unpopular to speak out for the truth; but we are not running a popularity contest. This is life and death…
Well said Okie.
I am finding a way to expose this stuff locally. Some of us have been asleep to the problem for way too long. Time for some to decide rather than ride the boat wherever it takes.
